Revitalash was created by Dr. Michael Brinkenhoff as a gift to his wife. Her eyelashes had been severely affected by the treatment she received for breast cancer. Having practiced opthalmology for over twenty five years, Dr. Brinkenhoff developed the product in order to renew and strengthen eyelashes.
The product is supposed to create and restore full, long and thick eyelashes between as little as three weeks up to ten weeks. Eyelashes may even grow back darker. It can also be used on the eyebrows. The product is applied using a brush at the base of the lash line once every night.
The ingredients of this cosmetic eyelash enhancement product include sodium chloride, which is the scientific name for table salt and thickens the liquid; panthenol, which comes from the B5 vitamin and promotes longer, shinier hair; chlorphenesin, which is a muscle relaxant and trifluoromethyl dechloro ethylprostenolamide, which is also linked to hair growth. Water and cellulose gum are also present.
There are also ingredients to preserve the product and prolong its shelf life, such as disodium phosphate, phenoxyethanol and citric acid. All of the mentioned ingredients are deemed safe by the FDA in certain quantities. Ingredients in the original formula were removed or changed to facilitate rules and regulations. The product was relaunched at the beginning of 2008.
Side effects of the eyelash conditioner are possible. Darkening of the iris is one of the common side effects. Some users have noticed darkening of the skin in the surrounding area.
Revitalash products include the eyelash conditioner with the new formula; Revitabrow, designed to enhance the eyebrows with daily application; a volumizing mascara and primer to maximize the potential of the lashes; and a hair conditioner, inspired by the success of the eyelash product, with similar advantages of making hair look fuller and healthier.
